Yoga Glossary E and F – Exhalation and Fascia
Welcome to the Yoga Nest Glossary, your mini-zen and uninhibited dictionary of modern yoga.
Here, we explore essential terms of yoga, meditation, and conscious movement, without pretending to be gurus.
Because between two asanas and a warm tea, we can talk spirituality, anatomy… and well-chosen accessories.
Editorial note
This glossary was originally written in French and organised according to the first letter of each term in French. As a result, the alphabetical structure does not always correspond to the English translation.
🔠 Letter E
Energy (Prana)
Definition: Life force that circulates in the body and supports breathing, movement, and mental clarity.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: That little something that makes the difference between “I’m staying on the couch” and “I’m putting on my leggings.”

🔠 Letter F
Flow
Definition: Sequence of fluid and continuous movements, guided by breath, whether structured (as in Vinyasa yoga) or totally intuitive and free.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: When each movement naturally follows the previous one, as if your body were saying: “let me do it, I know the way” and, for once, your brain isn’t asking: “what’s next?”
Flexibility
Definition: Body’s ability to stretch and move through a healthy and comfortable range of motion.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: It’s not about touching your feet, it’s about the gentleness with which you try.

✨ Yoga Nest Version: Like a house: if the foundations wobble, the rest becomes a bit of a house of cards.
Fascia
Definition: Living and sensitive connective tissues that envelop, connect, and structure muscles, organelles, bones, and nerves. Essential for mobility, posture, proprioception… and still largely under scientific exploration.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: The secret network that even experts say “we haven’t seen anything yet” and that your Yin Yoga loves to gently awaken.
Fatigue
Definition: Body’s signal indicating a need for rest or gentleness.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: Sometimes, the most advanced pose is accepting to lie down.
Smudging or Purification by Smoke
Definition: Practice of burning plants, resins, or aromatic woods (like sage or palo santo) to diffuse purifying smoke and create a calming atmosphere. An ancient tradition present in many cultures, it can support grounding, clarity, and personal rituals when practiced with respect for the plants and their origin.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: When you light a small stick of sage or palo santo to lighten the air… and you realize that your mind also becomes lighter (provided you open a window, of course).
Full Lotus (Complete Padmasana)
Definition: Advanced seated posture where the feet rest on opposite thighs, offering stability and concentration… if the body is ready for it.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: If your body wasn’t born for lotus, stay in Sukhasana: it’s the favorite pose of 95% of knees… and osteopaths.
Practice Frequency
Definition: Regularity of returning to the mat, more important than duration or difficulty.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: Better 10 minutes often than a yogic marathon every three months.
Frustration
Definition: Frequent emotion when a pose or progression is slow to come.
✨ Yoga Nest Version: When your body says “not today” and your ego insists. Spoiler: the ego often loses.
