Yoga Glossary G and H – Gong and Hatha Yoga
In this installment of the Yoga Nest Glossary, we explore the letters G and H. Each term is presented with an initial factual definition, followed by a lighter version in the Yoga Nest spirit. The aim is to better understand important concepts in yoga, anatomy, and practice, while maintaining an accessible approach.

🔠 Letter G
Gravity
Definition: Physical force that pulls the body towards the ground and contributes to grounding and stability in postures.
Yoga Nest Version: A constant partner that reminds you that sometimes going down can help you move forward more peacefully.
Gong
Definition: An instrument used in sound relaxation that emits long and deep vibrations, known to reduce mental activity and promote a state of relaxation.
Yoga Nest Version: The kind of sound that takes you on a very, very long journey.
Throat (Vishuddha)
Definition: An anatomical and symbolic space linked to the voice, breath, and the ability to articulate what you want to express.
Yoga Nest Version: The passage through which your authenticity takes shape, even when your voice trembles a little.
Gratitude
Definition: A practice of recognizing and appreciating the positive elements of a situation, day, or relationship, even when they seem modest.
Yoga Nest Version: The moment you notice something is going well, even though you were mostly busy seeing what’s wrong.
Grounding (Anchoring)
Definition: A set of practices that bring attention back to bodily sensations to reduce stress and strengthen grounding.
Yoga Nest Version: A simple way to remind your mind that your feet are a more reliable reference point than your restless thoughts.
Fascial Glide
Definition: The ability of fascia, connective tissues that envelop and connect body structures, to move fluidly relative to each other. This glide supports mobility and limits blockages and tension areas.
Yoga Nest Version: The pleasant sensation when your body stops behaving like a rigid block and starts moving more freely.
Golgi Tendon Organs
Definition: Receptors located in the tendons that detect muscle tension and participate in the regulation of tone and relaxation.
Yoga Nest Version: The internal signals that invite you to stop forcing long before your muscles openly protest.
Genetics
Definition: A set of hereditary characteristics that influence morphology, mobility, strength, and how your body responds to training.
Yoga Nest Version: The helpful reminder that some limitations come from your structure and not from your lack of effort.
Gluteus
Definition: The gluteal muscle group that ensures pelvic stability, propulsion in walking, and supports many yoga postures.
Yoga Nest Version: The muscles that work hard, even when you thought you were just sitting doing nothing.
Ganesha
Definition: An important figure in Indian tradition, represented in the form of an elephant. Ganesha is associated with new beginnings, discernment, and the ability to overcome obstacles.
Yoga Nest Version: The familiar image of the elephant that reminds you that you can progress step by step, without turning each step into an ordeal.
Gomukhasana (Cow Face Pose)
Definition: A seated posture that stretches the hips, shoulders, and triceps, and helps improve upper body and pelvic mobility. In yin yoga, it’s called Shoelace.
Yoga Nest Version: The posture that quickly shows how much your shoulders and hips have their own limits, sometimes different from your expectations.

🔠 Letter H
Hips
Definition: Central pelvic area involved in mobility, balance, and force transfer. Many bodily and somatic approaches also consider this region a sensitive space where tensions, emotions, and traces of stress or significant experiences can accumulate.
Yoga Nest Version: An area that seems neutral at the beginning of the session, then becomes very expressive as soon as you hold certain yoga postures for a few breaths.
Heart (Heart Dimension)
Definition: An inner dimension associated with emotional openness, connection to others, and the perception of what is meaningful to you. The heart chakra, Anahata, is located here.
Yoga Nest Version: The space you feel react when a posture or a word touches you more than you expected.
Hatha Yoga
Definition: A path of yoga that combines postures, breath, and concentration in a search for balance between effort and calm.
Yoga Nest Version: The practice of Hatha yoga shows you that going slower doesn’t make you lose time, quite the opposite.
Hydration
Definition: A fundamental pillar of health that supports muscle function, cognitive health, tissue elasticity, body temperature regulation, and overall balance. Hydration comes from the water you drink, water-rich foods, and tissue exchanges. For fascia in particular, movement is essential as it stimulates fluid circulation within the tissues.
Yoga Nest Version: A set of simple actions—drinking, eating hydrating foods, and moving—that helps your body function coherently on and off the mat.
Overactive Mind
Definition: Rapid and continuous production of thoughts that makes concentration and relaxation more difficult and disrupts the perception of the present moment.
Yoga Nest Version: The familiar phenomenon where your mind comments on everything, until you return to your breath and the volume gradually decreases.
Essential Oils
Definition: Concentrated aromatic extracts from plants, used to support relaxation, concentration, or alertness depending on their composition.
Yoga Nest Version: A few drops that change the atmosphere of your practice faster than a long speech.
Hatha Pradipika
Definition: A classic yoga text attributed to Svatmarama, written between the tenth and fifteenth centuries, which describes the basics of Hatha Yoga, postures, breath practices, and concentration techniques.
Yoga Nest Version: Proof that many principles you apply on your mat existed long before digital media.
Hanuman
Definition: A figure from Indian tradition associated with courage, perseverance, and devotion, often invoked as a symbol of trust and commitment. He has the appearance of a monkey, and the yoga posture Hanumanasana (front split) refers to him.
Yoga Nest Version: A source of inspiration to move forward with consistency rather than haste. Also when you practice Hanumanasana.
Halasana
Definition: An inverted posture that brings the feet behind the head or towards the ground, stretching the back of the body and intensely mobilizing the spine.
Yoga Nest Version: A posture that quickly shows that true progress comes mainly from patience and respect for your limits; they will evolve gradually.
Hasta / Hastasana
Definition: A term that refers to the hands or certain hand postures and gestures in yoga, used to refine alignment and direct attention.
Yoga Nest Version: The detail of finger placement that transforms an approximate movement into a precise and intentional gesture.
