The aim is to help you better understand certain key concepts of yoga, anatomy, breathing and philosophy, while remaining close to your concrete experience.

🔠 Letter I

Ischios

Definition: Group of muscles located at the back of the thighs. They are involved in knee flexion, hip extension and pelvic stability. Their flexibility influences the quality of forward bends and many yoga postures.

Yoga Nest version: The right kind of wobble that lets you work in depth without leaving your mat.

Interception

Definition: The ability to perceive the body’s internal signals, such as breathing, muscle tension, heart rate, heat or hunger. It plays a central role in listening to oneself and adapting one’s practice.

Yoga Nest version: This helps you hear your body when it’s not speaking very loudly.

Intention

Definition: Mental direction or inner state chosen at the start of a practice or session. Intention directs attention and provides a framework for experience.

Yoga Nest version: The landmark that gives meaning to even the simplest gestures.

Yoga Nest version: A reminder that today’s session is no indication of tomorrow’s limits or progress.

Introspection

Definition: Inward observation to better understand our thoughts, reactions, habits and needs. It complements the bodily experience of yoga with a reflective dimension.

Yoga Nest version: The little exploration that tells you why certain postures soothe you and others much less so.

Yoga Nest version: The breath that gives you a little more space just when you thought you’d run out.

Conscious immobility

Definition: The practice of remaining still while paying active attention to sensations, breathing and the environment, like Yin yoga. It encourages keen observation and regulation of the nervous system.

Yoga Nest version: Don’t move, but do it with intention, which sometimes proves more engaging than expected.

Insomnia

Definition: Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Certain breathing techniques, gentle practices and end-of-day routines can help relax the nervous system, without replacing medical advice if the problem persists.

Yoga Nest version: Those nights when your mind can’t find the switch, and a few slow breaths become a welcome support.

India

Yoga Nest version: A minimal gesture that tells your body and mind that it’s time to refocus.

Jalandhara Bandha

Definition: An energetic lock in which the chin is lowered slightly towards the sternum to regulate the breath and stabilize attention. It is sometimes combined with breath-holding techniques, which are not suitable for everyone and should be approached with caution and, ideally, with appropriate supervision.

Jathara Parivartanasana
