Rainstick | Bamboo Rainmaker
The rainstick (Rainmaker) originates from the very dry Atacama Desert in northern Chile, where it was used by the Diaguito Indians during rain ceremonies to invoke the arrival of rain.
In their current version, Meinl brand rainmakers are made from bamboo branches into which nails are inserted, then filled with small beads. To produce the typical sound of rain or running water with the Rainstick, simply tilt the body slowly to the side from a vertical position.
During the rotational movement, the filling inside the rainstick falls from one nail to another, producing the typical sound of dripping or rustling water. The sound spectrum of a rainstick ranges, depending on how you handle it, from a fine and delicate drizzle to a powerful downpour. A sound that transports you, awakens your senses, and guides you to relaxation.
